Loading Times – Ranked Higher In Google

Website Load Times( The Best Web Hosting Service )- Gone are the days when we sat and waited as a webpage we entered loaded—now people cannot wait for the fastest loading time. Speed is what allows present users to search instantly from fast-loading websites. Today, internet service providers have the need to offer greater bandwidth, while websites have to give us instant page loads.
Google, for some time, has been using the page load time as part of its page rank algorithm. So for similar websites, the one that can load faster is now ranked higher. Of course, page load speed is not the only matter considered here.  There are hundreds of factors that determine your rankings. The real winner is the person using the internet, who is given a better, more capable searching experience. Indeed, who now enjoys visiting a site only to wait while a flash movie loads?
Google actually has technology that can measure page load time. Done in two ways, the first has to do with how fast your website responds to the Googlebot. This is the program that crawls sites for indexing. The second way is your page loading time compared with your competitor’s page loading time.
Google has put forward a tool in their Webmaster Tools you can use in analyzing your site’s speed. To Webmasters Tools in the “Labs” section was added a page speed report. This report shows the speed your site loads, specifically calling out pages on your site, and suggests plans to improve your page speed. Be sure to get your Google Webmaster account right away. Google will spot your pages that are loading slowly, then compare your speed with competitive sites.
If you find any of your pages ranked as slow, then take time to make the needed design and structural changes. This is to strip down codes and images to speed up your website’s loading time. Loading a page in less than a second should be a good goal. This adjustment will definitely improve your search rankings, as well as improve the users’ search experience.
There are various steps you could take if you want to speed up your website’s loading time. Optimizing website images by making them smaller without changing its dimensions is quite simple with Adobe Photoshop and Macromedia Fireworks. Most sites have one or more JavaScript that has to be loaded before a visitor can open a web page. If you have more than one, you can merge them, then add a piece of HTML code to your page to call on the script. You can use a CSS layout structure rather than a table-based design. And you can break up long pages, making shorter ones which load faster.

WooThemes.com – Great Find

( The Best Web Hosting Service )- Another great site I found a couple of days ago is WooThemes.com.  This is a site that allows you to purchase WordPress themes.  In fact, they are actually running a special right now for 3 themes for the price of one!  I know it is badass…huh?  Or, you can even get access to all their themes for I believe $125 starter fee and then $15 dollars a month.

WooThemes

Most of the themes are for WordPress so if you are using Joomla then you are out of luck.  They do have a handful of Magento, Drupal, and ExpressionEngine themes as well.

So your probably wondering what is the price for just one theme, or should I say one theme and then two free ones.  Well, it is pretty respectable and the price for the standard package runs in at about $70, while the developer package runs for $150, and the enterprise themes run for 200 dollars.

In case you are wondering you can use them on an unlimited number of domains and all them come with full support access, theme updates, and various CMS (content management systems).

What are you waiting for check out WooThemes today!

Finding Parasites On Your Site?

( The Best Web Hosting Service )- As a lot of you already know malware on your website can cause all kinds of problems.  How these get installed on your site is anyones guess, but usually it is traced back to hackers that take pride in messing up others sites.  Whatever the case is you will at sometime get malware installed on your website and it is no fun at all removing it.  Believe me I use to host this site on GoDaddy and kept getting hacked so I canned them, because they were of zero assistance to me in resolving the problem. Might check out this post which was actually kind of therapeutic to write.  (why I won’t use GoDaddy again)

But, anyways sorry for my woes, but there is a site I always use just to make sure there is no malware installed on my websites.  The sites URL is http://www.unmaskparasites.com which is a fantastic site.  What you do is just put in your URL and hit check.   It will tell you if there is any funky business going on, on your website.  If there is you need to get the malware off there.  If it keeps happening and you get sick and tired of it read my InMotion review, because they are tops in terms of site security.  Seriously, I love them!

Unmask Parasites

Just, really a cool site with a lot of value to help quickly check if there is any malware on your website.  This site will tell you the links externally and everything, even show you if you have hidden text and sites that might be related to blackhat seo.  Don’t worry it is totally free and everything, and if you haven’t already started using it, you should really start :)

GoDaddy to Hostgator – DNS Change

( The Best Web Hosting Service )- So you want to switch your hosting to Hostgator, rather than use GoDaddy’s hosting. Well, let me congratulate you on this change. I approve this move :) . As you know, I am not a supporter of GoDaddy and would recommend using a handful of other web hosting companies before using their service. For my sob story see Why I won’t Use GoDaddy again blog post.

Switching your DNS in black in white is just cutting and pasting your nameservers and putting them in the right field. Not rocket science by any means. Does generally take a couple hours to switch over so don’t expect it to be instant before you can start FTPing your stuff to your new server.

So anyways I just took the time today to go to YouTube and find a video on how to switch your DNS on GoDaddy to Hostgator’s. Its really a painless process, and rather than explaining it I would just advise that you see the video below, in order to show you step by step on how to do it:

Htaccess File To The Rescue

Htaccess file( The Best Web Hosting Service )- Lots of people do not know it, but it’s there most of the time. Sitting quietly, doing its job—the humble .htaccess file is often there at the root of a web server. The .htaccess file has many functions. Let me show you how you can use it for improving your website’s URL, to make it readable for both people and search engines.

Htaccess for Newbies

Htaccess files are invisible plain text files where you store server directives. These files only affect the folder where they reside, and the sub-folders inside. This means that the sub-folders inherit the .htaccess properties from the parent folder. The simplest way to create a .htaccess if it is not in your server, is by using an FTP client. You create a new file and name it .htaccess. Note that you have to make sure your FTP client can display invisible or hidden files.
Reasons you need .htaccess:
•    More beautiful permalinks. If you’ve been using WordPress, you’re probably familiar with the term ‘pretty permalinks.’ All URL for your posts or pages, by default look like yourdomain.com/?=456. It’s not just ugly, but does not make sense to both people and search engines.
•    www or no www. Most URLs do not really matter to human visitors, but for the search engines, it does. Without defining the version of your URL to use, search engines regard them both as separate sites. In time, this may have an effect on the PageRank of your site.  Not to mention you can penalized for duplicate content, too.
•    301 Redirect. It may be that you previously had pages on your website which have been indexed by a search engine, but are now no longer there. As a visitor follows the link, he or she will be shown an error on your site. This is not good for you and your site. What you can do here is do the 301 Redirect in .htaccess file. This way, the old URL will now point to the new URL.   Please see (301 Redirects for me).
The article is not meant to be a comprehensive one of what a .htaccess file is and why you need it. It is simply a starting point for those new to building websites and need a few things right from the start.
